This is the story of the first fifty years of Qantas Airways Limited – the Australian airline which grew from humble beginnings in outback Queensland in 1920 to become one of the world’s major international airlines.
This is not the story of those intrepid men who flew the Company’s aircraft, but the story of a group of dedicated individuals whose engineering and technical skills and devotion to their task kept the fledgling airline in business.
It is the story of the Qantas Engineers (often told in their own words); in achieving technical expertise and standards of excellence in aviation – those who set the engineering standards that remain a Qantas hallmark today.
