Qantas Founders Museum
Audio Tours
We are excited to announce the launch of our new audio guide, designed to enhance your self-guided visit to Qantas Founders Museum and National Heritage Listed Qantas hangar.
Explore the origin story of our national airline and visit the birthplace of Australian aviation at the Qantas Founders Museum at Longreach, in the heart of the Queensland Outback.
This world-class, immersive museum is a ‘must-see’ destination for aviation enthusiasts, history buffs, and anyone with an interest in unearthing the inspiring story and enduring legacy of what has become one of the world’s most celebrated airlines.
This free downloadable audio guide introduces the museum facility and the story of Qantas' four ‘original’ founders.
Accessibility Information
Accessible car parking is provided within 10 metres of the museum entrance. The Museum itself is all on one level and is wheelchair accessible, with wide doorways and space within to maneuver with ease. Accessible bathrooms with braille signage are available at both the front and rear of the building.
Please note that access to aircraft on tours of the Airpark is only available via stairs. The Museum underwent an accessibility audit in late 2023 and is currently working on implementing recommendations to further improve accessibility.
The Light and Sound Show is a 25-minute experience, requiring guests to stand for the duration of the show. If you require a chair, please speak to the staff on the night.
Tactile indicators are present at the front door to assist with navigating to the entrance, and registered service dogs are welcome. A grassy area suitable for their toileting is available adjacent to the front entry.
A quiet area near the front entry keeps in mind the comfort of guests with sensory sensitivities.
Trained staff are at hand to assist with any accessibility requirements. If you have any questions ahead of your visit, please feel free to contact our friendly team on (07) 4658 3737.
New Audio Visual Displays
We are pleased to announce we have upgraded our Audio Visual displays in the museum! Featuring larger more accessible screens, captioning and directional sound speakers, our 20 year old oral histories are now more accessible and digitally preserved for the future. Out introductory film in our theatrette featuring Michael Caton also features captions for visitors with any hearing issues.
Qantas Founders Museum acknowledges the support of the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport for funding assistance for this project through the Accessible Tourism Infrastructure Program.
