Catalina Joins Airpark Collection at Qantas Founders Museum
Longreach, Australia – 16 October 2024
Qantas Founders Museum is excited to announce the successful relocation of the iconic Catalina flying boat to the Airpark, completing the museum’s unique aircraft display. With all five aircraft—the Boeing 747, Boeing 707, Douglas DC-3, Lockheed Super Constellation and the Catalina—now united under the Airpark roof, visitors can enjoy a complete aviation experience like never before.
The two-stage move was completed smoothly, thanks to the coordinated efforts of museum staff, Longreach Airport Manager Tim Rayner, and the Longreach Regional Council. The newly relocated Catalina joins its fellow aircraft in the sheltered Airpark, where it is now protected from the harsh Outback elements, preserving its condition for years to come.
Sarah Johnson, Senior Curator at the Qantas Founders Museum, expressed her excitement about the completed lineup: "It is fantastic to finally have all of our aircraft together in the Airpark. Not only are they better protected from the weather, but it also enhances the visitor experience, allowing every tour guest to see these historic objects side by side."
Tony Cullen, CEO of the Qantas Founders Museum, reflected on the significance of this milestone and hinted at future plans: "This achievement marks a significant moment for our museum. Having all five aircraft on display together is a proud accomplishment for the team. We are now exploring new options for what the next major exhibit will be for the outdoor space adjacent to the museum."
The completion of the Airpark lineup reflects the museum’s ongoing commitment to preserving Australia’s aviation heritage and offering a world-class experience for all visitors.
